You are designing your dream pool, the perfect backyard. You’ve considered the size and shape of the pool, the water and fire features, the landscaping and decking for the backyard; you’ve almost designed the best place for entertaining friends… almost. Where and how will they eat?
That’s right, how do you plan on feeding your guests? Will your guests file, dripping and uncomfortable, into your dining room to sit around your too-small table? I recommend your guests eat at the pool. Here are a few things that you can do to make your poolside picnic more comfortable and convenient.

Gazebo
I ought to write a book outlining the possibilities of the
poolside gazebo, but for now, let’s focus on the outdoor
kitchen option. A gazebo provides shade for your guests,
and ideally seating and a surface or two for eating.
One of my favorite examples is a large semicircle connected
to a wall with grilling kitchen running between the two ends.
You can run power for lights, fans, tv, fridge, plumbing for gas and water to create a comfortable place for everyone to congregate near the pool.
Umbrella Tables
Like the gazebo, the umbrella tables are an excellent option for eating at the pool. The umbrella provides shade, they can be moved for convenience and to add more seating for larger parties and the can be removed for more entertaining space after eating. Umbrella tables are much less expensive than building, plumbing and wiring a gazebo, and allow you to cook inside and entertain outside.
Swim-up Bar
Amazing! If a gazebo is in your budget, consider a little extra customization and dream with me for a moment. Remember that gazebo we discussed earlier? Imagine that that gazebo is right up against the water, now think of digging it down a few feet to the level of the pool floor. Half of the bar is dry seating, dug down with the gazebo, the other half of the bar reaches across the water. There are stools (pedestals) built into the pool for your guests to sit on while they marvel over your ingenuity and attention to detail.
